To many people biotechnology may only be all about cloning and genetically modifying organisms, but in recent years biotechnology has proven itself to be so much more. Defined as “Any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use” by The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, biotechnology basically involves the process of utilizing natural resources to make products. Different varieties of flora and fauna from land and marine origins as well as abundant numbers of microorganisms are potential resources that can be developed into sources of food, drugs and alternative renewable energy through biotechnology.
As a research center that focuses immensely in biotechnology research, advances and applications, the Research Center for Biotechnology recognizes the vital role of biotechnology application in many fields that include agriculture, health, environment and industry. We also understand that biotechnology has become an imperative tool in transforming humble raw materials into products that can be used in everyday life. As such we would like to host a two-day conference that aims to bring together experts and various stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
Here we are giving the opportunity for them to share and discuss the recent advances in biotechnology and how biotechnology has contributed to optimizing the utilization of natural resources towards applications at commercial and industrial levels. In the view of the theme “Biotechnology – Bridging Biodiversity to Industry”, the topics of discussion will cover not only updates on techniques and research innovations but also research design and the process taking place in converting raw materials or resources into a final product. Furthermore, it is expected that participants can gain insight on the commercialization process of research as well as the research planning and design towards industrial applications.
