Call for papers, Annales Bogorienses Vol. 10 No. 2, December 2005

Dear All,

We are inviting contributors to submit drafts for scientific papers to be published in our December 2005 edition of Annales Bogorienses (Volume 10, Number 2, 2005). The draft should be submitted to the editors by 30 September 2005 following the attached guidelines for authors.

Annales Bogorienses (ISSN: 0517-8452) is a six-monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Research Centre for Biotechnology, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in collaboration with LIPI Press.

Guide for authors


1. Types of contribution


This journal publishes peer reviewed original scientific papers, reviews, short communications, and technique papers in the fields of life sciences. Main interests areas are biotechnology, molecular biology and biochemistry. Reviews will be written by invitation, however, unsolicited reviews will also be considered for publication if prospective authors first contact the Executive Editor to check the suitability of their proposed subject matter.


2. Manuscript preparation

General. Papers should be in English. Manuscripts must be typewritten preferably using word processor package of Microsoft Word, double-spaced with one centimeter margins on all side of white paper. The lines on each page of the text should be numbered to aid the reviewers. Good quality printouts (A4 size paper) with a font size of 12 of Courier New type are required. For original scientific paper, the manuscript should not be more than 25 pages. For mini-reviews and short communications, the manuscript should not be more than 12 pages.

Three sets of original manuscript and three sets of original figures including the disk must be submitted. Paper sent out to the authors for revision should be returned within seven days; otherwise they will be treated as new submissions. Rejected manuscripts will be returned to the authors from the Editors. Original manuscripts are discarded one month after publication unless the Publisher is asked to return original material after use.

The Editors reserve to right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity. Authors should retain a copy of their manuscript since we cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss of papers. Three copies of manuscripts and the disk should be sent to:

Title page

- The name(s) of the author(s)

- A concise and information title

- The affiliation(s) and address(s) of the author(s)

- The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the communicating author

Abstract should be a brief summary of the paper and should present the most important results and conclusions in no more than 200 words. Besides written in English, abstract should also be written in Indonesian.

Keywords, three to five, should be supplied after the abstract for rapid scanning of the contents of the paper and used for compiling the index.

Abbreviation should be defined at first mention in the abstract and again in the main body of the text and used consistently thereafter.

The Introduction section should contain a brief survey of the relevant literatures and the reasons for doing the work.

The Materials and methods section should provide sufficient information to permit reproducibility of the experimental work.

The Results section should be presented as concisely as possible, where appropriate in the form of tables or figures. Full details of replication of results and statistical significance of differences claimed should be given.

The discussion section should deal with the significance of the results and their relationship to the object of the work. Comparison with relevant published work should be made and conclusions drawn.

References. The list of references should be arranged alphabetically by authors' names. The manuscript should be carefully checked to ensure that the spelling of authors' names and dates are exactly the same in the text as in the reference list. References should be given in the following form:

Illustrations and Tables

All figures (photographs, graphs or diagrams) and tables should be cited in the text, and each numbered consecutively throughout. They should accompany the manuscript, but should not be included within the text. All illustrations should be clearly marked on the back with the figure number. All figures should be in black and white. However, colored figures will be accommodated with the cost will be paid by the authors.

Line drawings. Good quality printouts on white paper produced in black ink are required. The inscriptions should be clearly legible.



Size of figures. Original photographs must be supplied as they are to be reproduced. If necessary, a scale should be marked on the photograph. Please note that photocopies of photographs are not acceptable.



Figure legends must be brief and self-sufficient explanations of the illustrations.

Tables should have a title and a legend explaining any abbreviation used in that table. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisk for significance values and other statistical data).

3. Offprints

Ten offprints will be supplied free of charge to the first author. Offprints can be ordered using the order form sent to the corresponding author after the manuscript has been accepted.
